Sơn thông minh có khả năng tiêu diệt một số chủng virus Corona’Air-purifying paint’ is found to kill a strain of coronavirus
Tờ Daily Mail đưa tin hãng sản xuất sơn Airlite tuyên bố loại “sơn thông minh” này có khả năng hấp thụ các chất ô nhiễm và mùi hôi, đồng thời tiêu diệt một số chủng virus Corona. Airlite cho biết mỗi mét vuông bề mặt được phủ sơn của hãng này có sức lọc không khí bằng một cây xanh cao lớn.
Các nhà nghiên cứu nhận thấy sơn thông minh Airlite có thể tiêu diệt 99% phân tử của chủng virus Corona NL63 trong chưa đầy 15 phút, nhờ thúc đẩy sự hình thành các hạt ion giúp phá.
Các thí nghiệm trước đó cho thấy sơn trong nhà Purelight và sơn ngoài trời Sunlight của Airlite có tính năng kháng khuẩn và chống nấm mốc. Tuy nhiên, mới đây, nhóm chuyên gia tại tại Đại học College London (UCL) ở Anh đã kiểm tra tác động của loại sơn thông minh mới này đối với virus NL63. Đây là chủng virus thuộc họ Corona, cùng họ với virus SARS-CoV-2 gây bệnh viêm đường hô hấp cấp Covid-19.
Qua đó, nhà virus học Chiara Mencarelli cùng đồng nghiệp phát hiện sơn thông minh Airlite vô hiệu hóa trên 99% phân tử virus bám trên bề mặt của chúng. Mặc dù chưa được thử nghiệm, Airlite khẳng định sản phẩm của họ có thể đem lại hiệu quả tương đương đối với chủng virus gây ra đại dịch hiện nay.
Hiện tại, mới chỉ có một nhóm nhỏ các công ty xây dựng và quản lý bất động sản sử dụng sơn Purelight và Sunlight do nó được sản xuất ở dạng bột và cần quy trình pha chế đặc biệt. Tuy nhiên, phiên bản dễ sử dụng hơn sẽ được tung ra thị trường vào đầu năm 2021 với mức giá dự đoán từ 40 – 100 USD/thùng 2,5 lít, tùy thuộc vào loại trong nhà hay ngoài trời.
Theo hãng Airlite, sản phẩm sơn mới trên thúc đẩy sự sản sinh ra ion bằng ánh nắng Mặt trời, giúp hình thành một “lá chắn ion hóa” trên bề mặt che phủ. Khi một phân tử virus tiếp xúc với sơn Airlite, các ion hydroxide sẽ hút hydro từ lớp vỏ bằng lipid-protein của virus, đồng thời phá vỡ phân tử virus.
“Trước đây, sơn tường đơn thuần chỉ mang tính chất trang trí, nhưng giờ đây, nó có thể đóng vai trò tích cực đối với sức khỏe của bạn. Chúng tôi đã chứng minh được hiệu quả của sơn Airlite trong việc tiêu diệt các loại virus và mới đây UCL phát hiện nó đủ mạnh để phá hủy virus Corona NL63”, ông Chris Leighton, Giám đốc quản lý Airlite tại Anh cho biết. Ngoài ra, tại các vùng thành thị ô nhiễm nặng, Airlite sẽ tạo ra bầu không khí trong lành hơn cho người sử dụng, giúp phòng chống nhiều bệnh về đường hô hấp.
Airlite bắt đầu cải tiến công thức sơn từ năm 2013. Hiện tại, các biện pháp hạn chế của chính phủ chưa cho phép hãng thử nghiệm khả năng đánh bại virus SARS-CoV-2. Tuy vậy, Airlite đã được chứng minh hiệu quả đối với chủng NL63, virus Enterovirus và virus cúm. Ông Chris Leighton tự tin rằng phương pháp phá vỡ lớp vỏ protein của virus cũng sẽ hoạt động hiệu quả đối với chủng gây Covid-19.
Tập đoàn bất động sản Grosvenor Britain & Ireland chính là một trong số ít doanh nghiệp sử dụng sơn chống khuẩn Airlite. Tại văn phòng của tập đoàn trên, Airlite được cho là phát huy hiệu quả trong việc làm sạch không khí, giúp giảm mức độ hiện diện các hợp chất hữu cơ dễ bay hơi gây bệnh hô hấp trong không khí đến 120 lần so với sơn tường thông thường.
Tương tự, công ty xây dựng Bouygues UK cũng thử nghiệm sơn Airlite tại các công trình phòng học và ký túc xá đại họ. Kết quả cho thấy mật độ phân tử nitrogen dioxide trong không khí đã giảm đến 90%.

Air-purifying paint developed to absorb pollutants and odours has been found to kill certain strains of coronavirus in under 15 minutes, a study concluded.
Paint manufacturer Airlite claims that every square metre of surface covered in their product provides the same scale of air-cleaning capacity as a tall tree. Previous tests showed that the paints have anti-bacterial and anti-mould properties.
Now, experts at London-based Virology Research Services have tested Airlite’s Purelight Interior and Sunlight Exterior paints against coronavirus strain NL63. From this, the team of virologists reported that the paints nullify more than 99 per cent of the viral particles that landed on their surfaces.
While it has not yet been tested, the paint should prove equally effective against the strain of coronavirus responsible for the current pandemic, Airlite claimed. At present, the paints — which come as powder and need special application — have only been used by a small group of property management and construction firms. However, a more traditional version is expected to hit the shelves of local DIY stores in the first quarter of 2021 — and will likely retail at premium paint prices of around £30–80 for 2.5 litres, depending on whether it is an internal or external application.
According to Airlite, the paint promotes the creation of ions — charged particles — by sunlight, helping to form an ‘ionised shield’ on the surface in question. When a viral particle comes into contact with this, hydroxide ions steal hydrogen from the former’s lipid-protein shell, as to become water, breaking the virus apart.
‘Previously, paint was solely decorative, but now, it can play an active role in your health,’ said Airlite’s UK managing director, Chris Leighton. ‘We had already proven Airlite’s effectiveness in killing viruses and now [experts have] found it is just as powerful at destroying coronavirus NL63.’
‘Especially in urban areas where pollution is at its highest, Airlite provides an escape from dirty air,’ Mr Leighton continued. ‘This helps prevent respiratory problems arising and gives homes and workspaces the security and cleanliness that haven’t been available from paints before now.’ ‘What’s more, it’s a one-time solution. Instead of buying a bulky air-purifier, paying for its upkeep and putting HEPA filters into landfill — Airlite can do all of that for you, whilst also helping to combat viruses such as the coronavirus,’ Mr Leighton added.
Airlite have been developing and refine their paint formulation since 2013. At present, government restrictions have prohibited tests of the paint’s ability to combat SARS-CoV-2 — the strain of coronavirus behind the current pandemic — but it has proved effective against another strain, NL63, as well as enterovirus and ‘flu. The company have said that the paint’s method of breaking down the viruses’ protein shell should work equally well on the COVID-19 strain.
Airlite’s paints have already been adopted as the preferred paint of property group Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, following successful tests of the product’s air-cleansing properties in both a Belgravia apartment and the firm’s headquarters in Mayfair. In the apartment block, the paints were said to have reduced the presence of volatile organic compounds in the air by a factor of 120. Similarly, construction firm Bouygues UK has also adopted Airlite paints as their preferred brand, after their tests showed that the coatings reduced nitrogen dioxide emissions by more than 90 per cent in classrooms and university residences.
